Support and FAQ
We all need a little help along the way! Please have a look at our Frequently Asked Questions below, and email us if you don't find the answer you're looking for.
-
Why do I need an Ontronic ECU?
A stand-alone, programmable engine management system is required when the engine has been modified beyond standard specifications. Once an aftermarket exhaust, turbo, camshaft etc is added to the engine, the factory ECU will no longer be able to control the engine to its new potential. This also includes engine development (racing and research), where no electronic engine management system is available.
-
Can I use Ontronic on any engine?
Ontronic can be used on most petrol engines with 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10 and 12 cylinders, naturally aspirated or supercharged, phased (fully sequential) or not phased.
-
How many injector and ignition coil drivers does Ontronic feature ?
Ontronic includes 8 injector drivers. Full sequential injection can thus be achieved on any engine between 1 and 8 cylinders. Ontronic includes 6 coil drivers (standard). Double-coils are thus required on any engines with 8 or more cylinders. Note that several coil driver outputs can be connected to a same coil, for example on single coil engine with distributed ignition.
-
Can I install Ontronic on a Diesel engine ?
Ontronic can drive any injector-based injection system with injector impedance between 1 and 20 ohms. Plese verify that your target application meets those technical criteria before installing Ontronic on a Diesel engine.
-
What do you mean with injection advance ?
On a full sequential fuel injection system like Ontronic, the injection advance is the crankshaft angle at which the injector begins to open. This angle is application specific and should be optimized on a dynamometer.
-
Can I use the original sensors of my engine with Ontronic?
Ontronic gives the user the possibility to calibrate their existing sensors. This allows for a wide range of original sensors to be used by Ontronic, which results in a straight forward installation of the device. In addition, Ontronic can be installed on any type of flywheel trigger disks.
-
I want to become an official Ontronic dealer, how should I proceed?
Ontronic would be happy to elect you as official reseller. Official resellers should have installed several Ontronic applications on different kinds of engines and should be familiar with the tuning techniques in general. To make it short, there is no need to contact on this matter if you have are not experienced with the Ontronic ECU.
-
What are the discount rates you offer to official dealers?
This depends on the yearly purchase quantities. It varies between 10% and 25%.
-
What is the mapping resolution of Ontronic?
The Ontronic ECU systems have 32x32 point mapping which gives excellent tuning potential.
-
Can Ontronic control an Idle Control Valve (ICV)
Ontronic features a PWM output that can be used to control an ICV. In addition, Ontronic includes a PID control to control the idle rpm at the desired value by controlling ignition timing and fuel injection.
-
Can Ontronic control boost pressure?
Ontronic features a PWM output that can be used to control boost solenoids (open loop). By modifying the pulse width at a sufficiently high frequency, average air pressure over time can be controlled. Solenoids may require small diameter restrictors be installed in the air control lines to limit airflow and even out the on/off nature of their operation.
-
Can I tune the car myself?
You can certainly tune your engine. However, we strongly recommend to take the car to an experienced tuner if you are unsure about the techniques. Ontronic includes a professional, user's friendly PC software for engine tuning and data logging.
-
Where do I obtain the tuning software?
You can download the tuning software from the software section.
-
Where do I obtain the user's manual?
You can download the different user's manuals from the documentation section.
-
Do Ontronic products have warranty?
Yes, Ontronic warrants its products to be free from any fault due to materials or workmanship for a period of 12 months from the date of purchase.
-
I am doing an engine conversion. Can I use an Ontronic kit instead of the factory wiring harness?
Yes, this avoids the need for the messy factory wiring harness when doing an engine conversion.
-
Can Ontronic provide a wiring harness for my application?
Yes. We can provide semi or fully terminated harnesses.
-
Does Ontronic technical support come with the unit when I buy it?
We provide 6 months support by email.
